Frances Place



Frances is a very experienced and able commercial mediator. She is able to combine her legal skills  with her mediation skills to help parties focus on constructive and realistic settlements, rather than dwelling too much on what has happened in the past. Parties to mediations have found this particularly useful, if they want or have to maintain a business relationship.

  • Admitted as a solicitor February 1982 where she worked for Kingsley Smith & Co in Kent, moved to Bristol in 1987 where she worked with Battens and then Wood Hodkinson & Co before joining Lyons Davidson in 1999.

  • ADR Accredited Civil Mediator 2002. Helped establish Civil mediation department.

  • Mediated regularly for Devon and Exeter Law Society for their In-Court Mediation Scheme and co-founded the In-Court Mediation Scheme at Bath County Court for commercial cases.

  • Extensive experience in family and Inheritance Act/Probate litigation

  • Co-owner with her husband of Progressive Mediation, offering mediation to those that need it at a reasonable price. Able to mediate in evenings and weekends to suit clients needs.

  • Trained in Equalities mediation and mediates disability, race, gender issues in the workplace and elsewhere on behalf of the Equalities and Human Rights Commission
